I have been really busy, wrapped up in trying to find the perfect color for our dark cave of a family room. This room has been Behr's Swiss Coffee since we bought the place. Yeah, a great trim color, according to CL magazine, but not a wall color. Yuck. At least in our light, or lack thereof. It looked like a dingy dirty greyish white. I needed the perfect color, and for 16 months (yeah, I had a baby 7 days after moving in, a C-section no less, so there were priorities, you know) I stalled and whined and couldn't find that perfect color. You know the one, the perfect beigey, creamy, oatmealy, ivory. A wheaty yellowy cream. That Ballard Designs french vanilla color.
So I bought about 14 samples. Every "wheat/semolina/pasta" color I tried turned highlighter yellow on our walls. Yuck. So I went cream. Still too yellow. I went brown. Too fleshy. I went "Oklahoma Wheat". Looked like a bad suntan. I gave up. I talked to my husband. Again. I cried. Again. I finally took my husband's advice {heaven forbid} and went one shade lighter than the nice, neutral tan we had in our last house, Alpaca by Ben Moore.
Turns out it was the *perfect* shade of coffee-n-cream ice cream with a slightly yellowy vanilla beige tint. Confusing, I know. It's Malton by Ben Moore. Who knew my husband would be right in the paint color department? So irritating; he will taunt me for days.
Here it is, in all it's you-can't-really-tell-on-the-digicam glory:
I will try and post more pics of the completed room soon. I am still rehanging pictures and putting stuff back. And yes, I too have design ADD and reaccessorize this area constantly.

ooh I love it! What a soothing color:)
Love your blog. LOVE the color! I've been on the same quest and have struggled, cried, given up, thrown in the towel, gone on the hunt, etc. It's frustrating, isn't it? Even still, when it all comes together the rewards far exceed the frustration in getting there.

Perfect! LOVE THAT color!!!!
OK - I'm officially a fan. It looks great, and I'm a sucker for topiaries.
What a great WARM color. Will make the perfect bacdrop for any seasonal decor!
It looks lovely. It really is hard to find the right color, so congratulations!
Pretty color! I know how hard it is with lighting & all to find the right color. I'm getting ready to paint an aqua shade & luckily got it right on the 2nd try. You just never know until you try them out.
Love your furniture and the whole vignette. Gorgeous!
Wonderful blog. I enjoyed reading through it. I'm anxious to see more of your family room. Love the little teaser/vignette you shared.
