Too Weird For Words?

I am a pillow addict. They are spilling out of every closet, out from under the beds, in garbage bags in the garage. I bought 2 more last night. For my bedroom. They didn't work there. Rather than resigning them to a return bag in my trunk, I tried them in the living room. Now, there is not really any blue in this room. The couch is sort of grey-green and persimmon. The walls are a soft caramel and Svelte Sage, a grey-green. This is a little weird. But for some reason, I kind of like them! Am I losing my mind? Should I just return them and look for something else that actually has green in it? Or is this one of those situations where you can just throw an accent color in that has nothing to do with anything?

I've seen other bloggers with green walls, a tan couch and brown and blue pillows, all not necessarily matching exactly but there is a flow. Perhaps that is what i'm looking for here. Lord knows i've been trying to find the "perfect" accent pillows for this couch for 4 years. They don't exist. So whaddya think? Is it too weird for words?

p.s. If you are going to tell me to use the ones I got from Goodwill yesterday, they're in my bedroom now where they are very happy...

I'm scaring myself with how many pillows I seem to be collecting too. Weird how things go in stages - I didn't have many now I have too many! I like these - I don't like things that are too matchy, so I think the contrast is nice - maybe add like one that is a little smaller and darker in front of one of the larger ones (if that makes any sense at all...). Love the shutters!!

Love them!
My grandmother, who happened to have a wonderful sense of style, used to say," Honey you just live with it for a few days, and you'll know."

I think I like them. They are a little unexpected, but seem to look great with the coloring and pattern of your couch. I think it is very fitting for your "farmhouse with a french twist" style! You seem to be able to mix things-patterns and colors and such- so well. Hope you keep them!

I agree with you! I am always changing pillows. At least they are cheap!

Where did you get those ones! I love them. I just got the exact one from the Quilt Shop here in Utah, and I was looking for another pink in that print, but they were all out, at the store. Just thought I'd ask!
Thanks

Shelley,
I got them at TJ Maxx.

I think that the new pillows nicely pull the light colors from your plates and shutters down to the sofa. I was also going to suggest the same thing as the first gal...regarding adding some smaller darker pillows in front of the new ones...or perhaps just on one side..unless you want them to be symmetrical.

what did you decide..i liked the white ones but i like these too...what about just using one and having a big brown or dark red monogram just one letter put in the middle??? or you could even do the monogram in a funky green to really funk it up..and it is just on one side so you can always turn it around if you get tired of it... love your sofa fabric..

go girl!

I am a bedding addict. TJ addict too. Pillows seem like a fun addiction. Does that make me an enabler?

My name is Wendy, I am a pillow-holic. Ha! I have so many pillows I think I should probably start rotating them.

I agree with Chrissy..I would put burlap and then grain sack pillows on your couch. It would work really well with the colors in your couch...and your style in the rest of the house. I am addicted to pillows too!!!

You guys are so sweet. I really appreciate every piece of feedback I get. It's like having 15 girlfriends over at once to discuss a decorating issue. So fun! I have decided to keep the pillows.

1. I am replacing this couch within the next year with a neutral {probably slipcovered} sectional. It is broken and falling apart.

2. As much as I LOVE burlap and grainsack, it is so neutral and it kind of dies on the sofa... I tried some linen pillows in those grain sack colors and they just died.

3. There is suddenly LIFE in this room with these pillows and it has totally inspired me! I am so energized by the color and non-matchiness of it all! I started weaving little blue accents in through the room and you know what? It looks really good!!!

And I found the BEST lamp at Goodwill yesterday... a total Aidan Gray wannabe. It kind of pulled the whole thing together. I will have to post pics soon!

Thank you again for all your comments. It means the world to me to know you care enough to help me with such a minor decision. Yay bloggers!

Nice selection of fabrics...
Okay, I must say it...I have a phobia about using someone elses's pillows on my sofas. I cannot buy used shoes, towels, sheets or pillows unless I can wash them first!
So sorry to bring that up but I cannot help it!!!

I understand what you're saying about "soft" goods, but the pillows I bought literally still smelled like upholstery fabric and are in mint condition. No fading, no stains, nothing. And they're on my bed {over the quilt, of course}. These on my couch are from TJ Maxx. But I hear ya.

I buy my throw pillows from the thrift store ALL the time. I do the smell test too and if I'm at all worried I throw them in the dryer and spray a little disinfectant to kill any germs.
I think the pillows look great! But,in my opinion, since you're adding a new color then you really need to commit yourself. Buy a couple of more pillows in that same color range to go with those. One can never have too many pillows on a couch right? You might even want some solid colored ones. Or use your linen or white ones, but paint or stencil a large design in that pretty blue color. Look at the dollar store. I found some great pillow covers there which allow me to change colors without buying more pillows. That's my opinion, whatever it's worth.

Joy, I totally agree with you. I have already painted a mirror blue, 2 urns blue, and I'm looking for another way to accent in blue. I am threading the color throughout the room so it makes sense. and you know what? I LOVE IT!

p.s. I have layered in a leopard pillow in front of one of the blue ones, and there will be a burlap monogrammed one soon joining the group...
